Where would Batman be without the Batmobile?
Maybe pacing back and forth in the Batcave, waiting for Lyft to show up while the Riddler runs rampant through Gotham City. Not good.
In fact, there’s a long history in Hollywood of story-telling about heroes and their cars. Blade Runner (both of them), Knight Rider (all of them) and RoboCop. There are even some not-so-heroic heroes in that history, like Marty McFly and Doc Brown in Back to the Future’s DeLorean.
And now, if you’re in Los Angeles anytime soon, you can see that DeLorean, the Batmobile, and dozens of other iconic rides – not on the screen but in person.
Hollywood Dream Machines: Vehicles of Science Fiction and Fantasy is the show, the place is the Petersen Automotive Museum, and unlike the Caped Crusader, you can take Lyft.
If you drive yourself though, don’t forget the words of the Dark Knight:
Batman: “Better put 5 cents in the meter.”
Robin: “No policeman’s going to give the Batmobile a ticket.”
Batman: “This money goes to building better roads. We all must do our part.”
